We are now accepting submissions to audition/interview for the 2011/2012 Kinsmen Young Company.

This is an exciting new world of pre-professional training and artistic expression. It requires commitment, passion and the desire to take your artistry to the next level.

The program runs from February 1 to May 6, 2012 (dates are approximate). The selected applicants will study intensively with professional theatre artists before entering rehearsals with a professional director. The culmination of the program will be a public, professionally production on the BackStage Stage at the Remai Arts Centre.

• passionate and talented artist
• age 14 to 19
• ready to make a serious commitment of time and energy

then we encourage you to submit your application!

Please follow the guidelines below. You will be contacted to arrange an interview and audition.

We are also accepting submissions from young artists interested in working in production capacities such as Stage Management, Set, Costume, or Lighting Design (under the supervision of professionals). Please follow the same guidelines below.

There will be three submission dates for FLoYD 2012: 17 September 2011, 19 November 2011, 14 January 2012

Here’s how it works:

You can submit your play  in September or November no matter how close to being done it is. If you only have a few pages, send it it. If it’s a rough first draft, send it down. FLoYD dramaturge Andy Carlson McNab and artistic director F. David Schultz will read it over.

David will write out some comments, and Andy will take the time to sit down with you and talk over the show in detail. Then, you take the comments and constructive criticism, apply them, ignore them, whatever, and go back to working on your show.

Re-submit your play, and the process repeats. You can keep getting feedback on your show, some helpful advice, and encouragement to get it finished!

14 January 2012 is the final deadline.

The play must be complete by this date, and this will be the copy considered for the 2012 festival. Andy Carlson McNab will do a final dramaturgy with you, and if your play is accepted, we may ask for a final run of edits to be completed by February 28 2012.

Important note:

You do not need to submit your play or progress at each deadline. You may send in your finished script on 14 January 2012 only, and you will receive the same consideration as anyone else. We are offering the added deadlines as a service to help young playwrights gain confidence in their work and give them a chance to share their progress with some help from the executive.

FLoYD is having open auditions for six new one-act shows written by youth in the Saskatoon community. Auditions are open for youth 25 and younger of all skill levels and experience.

FLoYD Youth Theatre is committed to producing works created and presented entirely by young people. It endeavours to provide youth in the city an opportunity to express themselves, share their love of theatre, and learn about the theatre process independently from academia. Its hope is that anyone coming out of FLoYD is given the confidence and inspiration to continue to pursue theatre and the arts, and make the Saskatoon arts community thrive and become more vibrant.
